The New Boy is a significant and beautiful to watch Australian drama filmwritten and directed by Warwick Thorntonand starring Aswan Reid as the title character, alongside Cate Blanchett, Wayne Blair and Deborah Mailman. Blanchett also helped produced the film.
It follows a young orphan boy, (Reid) who is brought into a Chrsitian monastery, run by a renegade nun, (Blanchett) where he begins to question his faith and loyalty to his heritage.
The film premiered at Cannes and is welcome addition to our Reconciliation Week screenings which, also celebrate Australian film making.
Music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
